Reports and photographs to follow as the season progresses
So Keith and I turned up this morning in North Nottinghamshire after staying overnight at my Dad's. The event was very well run with the HQ full of flags and banners and the finish area looking like something you see on the TV ! When we arrived, we had to hand in our licences and have our kit and the bike subject to a full technical inspection ( thankfully, I had read the 82 page UCI technical document we were sent). They then asked for the registration plate of our following team car and it started to dawn on us that we were a little out of our depth. ! The race was well marshalled with the road being closed on each junction to allow us safe passage without slowing down. Our training on the Ogmore circuit was ideal for a race with 1000 feet of climbing and our three lap times were within 20 seconds of each other. We could not have got any more out and we averaged over 21mph for this hilly circuit. We were 3rd Mens team but did not get any medals as the female teams all had an 11 minute allowance! We would have won any age-related award as we were easily the oldest there by some 20 years! The standard in all the categories was very high and most of our competitors were on the GB squad. There was a good level of camararderie between all the riders who clearly compete against each other on a National and European level regularly and virtually all were sponsored and semi- professional. We had a great day out and it was a good way to end the racing season. Steven M
