Club Mid week TT - 27.06.13

Good evening oh mad ones. Just arrived home and sitting in my pj,s and bedsocks. "Flaming June" make of that what you want. Sian says she enjoyed the weather, you men are wimps

Despite the weather being absolutely appalling with everyone getting quite cold, the humour was of it,s usual good standard. Apologies to Louise Tasker, who sat in the car throughout, wise girl. If we had known you were there we would have come and chatted. Hope you didn’t feel left out. Remember tomorrow night is French night ooh la la.

Good weather for "ducks" and "kite flying" !!!!

Found it really hard on the return, pretty strong headwind!

Last ride was 6th June with a PB of.............25.48. Tonight another PB of..............25.14.

Happy Days !

Well done to all the riders especially David Bees....Awesome time in those conditions!

Thanks to all the helpers who "soldiered on" in the elements and made it happen!  MN

Excellent ride Mark, hardly recognise you now!

I have to echo Mark's comments about the event team tonight, thanks for putting

on a good event when even the ducks were taking shelter!  CT

Well done to all riders but a bit worried to hear about handlebar probs' Andy-!!!(only joking,I know my bike's in good hands!)  TB

Nice and sunny but once again that wind reared it’s ugly head.

I'd like to thank Steven for the loan of his helmet after I left mine in the kitchen at home...

Thanks to the organisers for another well run club event. CT

Is that all 3 forza guys on standard road bikes? Hope I am not in any road races with them

any time soon, they are all flying! RJ

I second Chris`s comments and thanks to the organisers especially Steven our time keeper.

I bet there`s not many clubs with a timekeeper wearing a "pin stripe suit", how posh are we.!!!!

I managed a PB albeit by 10 secs but I`ll take that. My goal to go under 25mins this season,

4secs to go

Another great event,

Thanks All. MN

Congratulations too to Steve Landeg.

Under 25 minutes for an old guy like him,

and a PB on this course ! After a great

season in 2012 what has he in mind for the

 rest of 2013 ? TR

Club Championship Hillclimb 07.07.13

Fantastic weather for an arduous hill climb, says she who stood and took photos. A little disappointed that more did not turn up, even to watch. Those who did turn up participated in a club run to calm down after all the excitement. This is a new hill this year, therefore the winner holds the club record, until next time anyhow. It is 743 yards of purgatory. - Thanks to all.

Thanks Lynne/ Norman never sure who is the author - regardless thanks to all those mentioned below for putting on the event today.

Its only a bit of fun but still takes plenty of organisation, planning and time from a number of givers in the club. So I agree its disappointing (and surprising) more didn't ride today. Maybe it was the heat.

Chris G a worthy (defending) champion regardless. Clearly he's been letting me beat him up hills the last year or so in the club runs knowing he had a bit more when needed RJ

It was a lovely warm evening and unusually the wind was on the way out. Thanks go to

Teresa Deeley     Photographer

Andy Harries       Turn signs and also involved in the search party.

Well, what an exciting evening. Firstly Norman and myself forgot the numbers, so Tim kindly drove back home and picked up his set and race back to get them to the riders in time. Richard Beech did an ace job of pinning them on the riders on the starting line. So far so good, except that at the end of the event we were one rider down. No sign of him and no-one could remember seeing him at the finish. His car was still there, Teresa rang his wife, who was now worried, hence a search party. Teresa and Sian one direction, Chris Tasker another and Norman and myself yet another direction. We must have all decided to return to the finish as we were travelling in convoy, only to find rider’s car no longer there. Another call to his wife, he wasn't home yet. The mystery deepens. About 20 minutes later a reassuring call from Teresa who had heard from his wife that he was home and all was well. Phew. LJ

It was a night of joy and abject dispair..

Joy !  - at Norman forgetting the numbers ( surely worse than forgetting your shoes?)

Dispair- when I thought Mark Nott had finally beat me by 2 seconds..

Joy! - when I had mis-read the results and I beat him by 58 seconds!

More Joy!- when I beat Rob Jones ( I needed to beat him and get 10 points to tie in the season- long competition)

Abject dispair - when I realised Mark Rosser (without aero helmet) had beaten me and therefore I only got 9 points....

I'm not sure my nerves can stand any more of this ! SM

Well done Lynn and event/ search team!

I have been undertaking some rigorous and robust research last few months into the impact of various aero gear on my speed/time My conclusion is very simply that without all of it I am very average! I had everything but the aero lid and skin suit today. Was sooo slow. I take my hat off (literally) to those turning up on standard road bikes and helmets putting in decent times week after week. For me it is all about the gear. Sadly. RJ

Big Thank You to all including Norman ,Lynne, Chris,Richie and Tim.

With or without the aero gear "it" was happening for me, I think a few too many glasses of red whilst away for a few days in Cornwall put pay to me going under 24mins,great excuse ayyy!!! MN

Well, weather more like it was at the beginning of the season, but that didn’t stop you real men from having a go on something other than an aero. Steve Landeg turned up on a ladies mountain bike, Andy Harries rode an actual ladies bike. Chris Tasker Turned out on a Brompton, and rode in shirt, jacket and tie. It was lovely to see everyone getting into the frame of mind that was needed for this event.

Thanks to all who participated and helped. We have had a number of entries for our handicap event next week, so looking forward to helping out in the last of the midweek events for 2013. See you there. LJ

I hear Andy has been practicising TDF stages on said ladies mountain bike, so maybe he should have had a handicap for this event!  ;)

Thanks to you and all the others who selflessly give up their time to make these events happen, unfortunately I have not been able to ride as many as I would have liked this year, but from the looks of the results, numbers have been up on last year.

I am away with work next week so wish all taking part the best of luck in the handicap. SM

Great Event !

The three lucky winners of the category draw were;

Stephen Landeg. Womans Mountain Bike

Andy Harries. Ladies Road Bike and;

Chris Tasker. Brompton - full kit.  TR

Thanks to all who turned up to help, it was so well attended that some of us were twiddling our thumbs. keep up the good work.

What a finale for the end of the season.  You could never say it,s dull with an Oggie event. We were graced with the likes of Dani King, Olympic and world champion. Good luck Dani for the world championships at the end of the month. To make it even more exciting there were traffic lights on the course, so a mad panic to move the start and finish into Wick village to avoid them. Signs that had been put out were collected back in and repositioned to an emergency start and finish. We had a fantastic turnout for our last event too. 20 in all, so thanks guys.

Many thanks to Richard Beech for doing the pushing off, we would have been truly stuck without you.

Well done to everyone, participants and helpers alike. It is you that makes these events the success they are. See you around for the social season and looking forward to 2014 season. LJ

That's whats great about Cycling - being able to meet and race against a Gold Medallist!  Thanks to Norman, Lynne, Allan, Mary, Teresa and Tim who did the majority of the organisation as well as those who did something each week. The total number of rides are massively up on last year with lots of riders from other clubs taking part. SM

What a fitting finale to a great season !!!!!!!!

A massive "Thank You" to all who make the events happen every week including Lynn and Norman, Mary and Allan, Teresa and Tim, hopefully I haven't missed anyone?

"Much Appreciated"!

Can`t wait for next season. MN

Many thanks to all the organisers who made PLAN B a success! Regret not joining earlier in the season, great fun, looking forward to 2014! You never know who will be on the Wick road on a THURSDAY NIGHT!  NB

Sunny weather although a bit blustery. Seems to be the norm for this course. Despite this there were some good rides done.

Thanks to all who turned up to help, it was so well attended that some of us were twiddling our thumbs. keep up the good work.

Tempted to write something humorous about my poor time, suffice to say that changing to aero wheels,

Good night tonight - despite the rain.

We did 53.02 - damn the horse box which bought us to a stop on a roundabout!  Mark Rosser was awesome, Rob, you'd better be on top form when you ride the 2-up with him!  Apologies Chris for not waiting for you. Non aero kit and 70 years of TT experience probably told down the bank - as well as the fact we were doing 46mph!

Andy and Simon did a '56' after losing Will and the 'dream team' did a 58. The event was won with a '47'! SM

Big Thank You to Norman,Mary,Lynne,Allan,Tim and Teresa!

Really enjoyed the ride, that's the first marker down for the season and was a PB by 43 secs.

Thanks again all for making it happen. - MN

Excellent night, how did you manage to get the nice weather, I forgot to check the standard of leg shaving. Will we have 30 on a good July evening, there were a few people missing and no ladies. Lots of spectators on route so with the new flags arriving today, no sleep last night, we should raise our profile. Come and have a go next week. Vince's time on a "lumpy course", is it down to Gillette 2? - RB

Many thanks to timekeepers Norman James and Mary Marks, recorder Lynne James
Starter Allan Marks, Turn Marshall Tim Raine. Numbers Teresa Deeley. This has been the best turnout for a club event for some years. Thanks to all for making an excellent evening. LJ

Club Mid week TT - 16.05.13

Another good turn out, after last weeks cancellation due to poor conditions.

What a lovely evening for a 10.  Fairly still, but some riders saying there was still a head wind after the turn.

Most enthusiastic finishers goes to Lowri and Wil and biggest smile of the night goes to Mark Nott. TD

This hides that some were in full space-tech aero gear whilst others were on standard road bikes of course. Could we cater for that on the start sheet somehow in future? Just because its interesting, not for competitive reasons. Amazingly John Aspell was in the later category. That makes his ride about the best I am aware of on this course.  Shocked Apparantly his bike has freakish speed qualities ...I am sceptical and think he is just riding it very well. Good to see so many riding last night enabled by Allan, Mary, Teresa, Norman and Tim. Good to see one of the new ovw banners also. You could not fail to notice there was and an event going on.  RJ

A very big thank you to all those who helped put the event on last night in such cold and uncomfortable conditions. We may not be elite athletes but without your help the grass roots of small clubs would never survive. Thank you.  KC

Thanks for posting the results so quickly. Since I am a non-cycling member this year so far, please give the credit for turn marshal to Richard Beech who seemed to enjoy it !  TR

Windy conditions made the night a 'toughie'.

Worth turning up tonight even if it was only to see Steven attempting to ride his bike in his work shoes after realising he had left the cycling shoes home!!?!?

A quick trial run on 'TT bike/aero helmet and usual gear' ended his proposed 2up with 'the Butcher' - PRICELESS!  JS

Well I suppose it had to happen one day...

My normally meticulous preparation let me down as my I had left my cycling shoes in my bike bag, still to be unpacked from Spain.  I did do a trial run in full kit and work shoes but my heels kept catching on the chain stays!

I will be disappointed if I am not recognised for this in some shape or form at the club dinner...!  SM

Celtic Series 1 - 10th March 2013 - R10/22a

Well at least it wasn't  raining, but the wind and cold made up for it. Had the normal 54321 push, straight into the wind, struggled to make the first r/bout, but once on the dual c it was "we are off", unfortunately we had to turn and come back into the wind, not very nice. Most riders clocked their worst time ever, many including me over the "standard 30". can only get better

Club Mid week TT - 02.05.13

What a fantastic turnout for the first tt of the season. Weather fine and DRY, with a wind over the left shoulder, as Norman would say.
